Quotes to Organize
“It is through the collaboration which he solicits from us that Christ, starting from all creatures, is consummated and attains his plenitude. St. Paul himself tells us so. We may, perhaps, imagine that Creation was finished long ago. But that would be quite wrong. It continues in still more magnificent form in the highest zones of the world….Our role is to help complete it, if only by the humble work of our hands. This is the real meaning and the price of our acts. Owing to the interrelation between matter, soul, and Christ, we lead part of the being which he desires back to God in whatever we do. With each of our works, we labor automatically but really to build the Pleroma, which is to say we help towards the fulfillment of Christ.” (“The Divinization of Our Activities” in Modern Catholic Thinkers [Vol. 1], New York: Harper 1960.)“Lord Christ, you who are divine energy and living irresistible might: since of the two of us it is you who are infinitely the stronger, it is you who must set me ablaze and transmute me into fire that we may be welded together and made one. Grant me, then, something even more precious than that grace for which all your faithful followers pray: to receive communion as I die is not sufficient: teach me to make a communion of death itself.” (Hymn of the Universe, NY: Harper and Row 1965.)
Pierre Teilhard de Chardin,
“One of the things rooted in our nature which constitutes us in God’s image, is our innate liberty. God is infinitely free, because He is infinitely powerful and beyond any other determination except that of His own love; and love is, of its essence, free. The freedom that is in our nature is our ability to love something, someone besides ourselves, and for the sake, not of ourselves, but of the one we love. There is in the human will an innate tendency, an inborn capacity for disinterested love. This power to love another for his own sake is one of the things that makes us like God, because this power is the one thing in us that is free from all determination. It is a power which transcends and escapes the inevitability of self-love.”
― Daniel P. Horan, OFM The Franciscan Heart of Thomas Merton: A New Look at the Spiritual Inspiration of His Life, Thought, and Writing
“It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag.”
― Admiral Jeremiah A. Denton
In Hebrews 12:2, it says we should keep our eyes on Jesus. If we do that from morning until evening, then we’re able to live the day correctly.
In the Bible, Jesus said that his yoke is easy and his burden is light. Yet many people think that trying to live according to the way God asks them to means they will lose their freedom. In fact, the reverse is true. It’s only when we try to allow God into our lives, even into the darkest parts, that we discover what it means to be really free. I fly all over the world now to give talks. In
2009, for example, I visited Liberia, the Cayman Islands, Hong King, Thailand, Australia, New Zealand and the USA. Travelling is great. I meet interesting people, see new places and experience different cultures. I love to sit on a beach sipping a Bacardi Breezer, but I’m just as happy relaxing at home in Ireland or speaking to half a million people at World Youth Day, so long as I feel this is God’s will. It doesn’t matter what I’m doing; my worth is not in what I do but in who I am, a child of God who is loved.
John Pridmore Journey to Freedom (2010)
By analogy, if we keep our focus on the baseball from the beginning of the game until the end, then we’re able to play correctly. Even during a game, the focus is still Jesus; but from a physical-mechanical standpoint, the focus is the ball.”
